Get Academic Support
Below is a list of academic resources offered by colleges and universities and through New Haven Promise. Remember, it's okay to ask for help with schoolwork! Don't try to figure everything out by yourself. The sooner you reach out for support in the semester, the easier it'll be to catch up and do well in your classes. So take advantage of the resources and crush your academic goals!
1. The Promise Connection Program
If you’re struggling with a course, let us know. We’ll connect you with a peer scholar who has already succeeded in the course and can offer guidance and support. Don’t wait until it’s too late – contact us early for help. If we are unable to find a scholar to connect you to, we do our best to connect you with an on-campus contact or resource.
2. On-Campus Resources
Your college provides various on-campus resources to support your academic journey, including the Offer of Student Services, Student Success Center, Academic Advising Center, and your professors. Additionally, each student is assigned an Academic Advisor who can help you make your academic plan, monitor your progress toward graduation, and connect you with valuable academic and career opportunities.
University of Connecticut
- UConn encourages scholars to sign up for UConn Connects, a program that provides you the opportunity to meet weekly with a faculty, staff, or undergraduate peer mentor. These one-on-one meetings will help you make the necessary changes and stay on track to produce a positive result during your next semester. Mentors are knowledgeable about important university resources and are trained to assist you in developing effective strategies for success.
- Center for Access and Postsecondary Success (CAPS): CAPS is offered at all UConn campuses and continues throughout a student’s college career by providing tutoring, advising, and mentoring resources in support of student success. To find the CAPS contacts at your campus, click here.
- Drop In Couching: designed to support students in developing skills, behaviors and habits tailored to their personal style that will contribute to their continued success in college. Their trained, undergraduate peer coaches provide 1-1 strategic academic support in areas like attention management, stress management etc. No appointment necessary! - The UConn Hartford Campus has a Biology Tutoring Center (the “B” Center) that provides free peer tutoring for life science courses listed under BIOL, EEB, MCB, and PNB.

Southern Connecticut State University
- SCSU provides support to Promise Scholars through their University Access Programs (UAP), located in Engleman Hall B081. UAP advocates take a personal interest in the holistic development of each scholar, focusing on their academic, personal, social, financial, and career growth. Through regular meetings and strong, trusting relationships, advocates excel at communicating with scholars who navigate intersecting identities and unique challenges. Meet an UAP contact here.
- SSCU has a Center for Academic Success and Accessibility Services (CASAS) that provides Academic Success Coaching, Academic Support, and Mentor Academic Partnership etc.

Central Connecticut State University
- The CCSU Learning Center, located in Willard- DiLoreto Hall, Room D316, provides academic coaching, tutoring, Math Placement Testing, and Academic Probation Intervention services.
- Academic Coaching: Provide students with new study strategies, better organization and time management skills, general moral support, and create a supportive learning environment in which students are held accountable for their own success. Students meet with a coach on a one-on-one basis, setting short- and long-term goals, while developing the skills needed to achieve those goals. - Success Matters: This program identifies students who are struggling during the semester so as to intervene early. Student Affairs will reach out to students regarding personal issues that they may be experiencing that are impacting their academics. Student Affairs will meet with these students and work with them and get them connected with campus resources that will aid in their success.

Eastern Connecticut State University
- ECSU Academic Success Center (ASC) located on the First Floor of J. Eugene Smith Library, assists students in realizing their highest level of achievement possible. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources the Center offers such as advising center, writing center, tutoring center etc.
- University Opportunity Programs (UOP) are high impact success programs and services for students from underserved and other unique populations, including those who are academically underprepared, under-resourced, first-generation, and/or undocumented.

Western Connecticut State University
- WCSU offers a variety of resources through the Tutoring, Academic Support, and Library Services, such as Math Clinic, Tutoring Resource Center and Writing Center etc.
- University Advisement Center supports students in their academic journey by offering guidance on major requirements, assisting with course selection each semester, and providing information on university policies and procedures.
- Academic Resource Mentors (ARM) are peer students whose goal is to help you find the information, locate the resources, and connect you to people who can help you in your academic endeavors. Each residential hall has at least one ARM.

CT State Community College – Gateway
- CT State Community College has an Academic Advising Center, a Tutoring Center, and a Tutoring Resources page to help you succeed. Click on your campus, such as “Gateway,” to view their on-campus locations and contact information.

Quinnipiac University
- Quinnipiac University has a Learning Commons located in the north wing of the Arnold Bernhard Library. It offers a wealth of academic support services that cater to the diverse needs of all students, including Peer Academic Support, Academic Coaching, Academic Development and Outreach etc.
- If you have a disability you would like to disclose, the Office for Student Accessibility will work with you to ensure you have equal access to educational opportunity. We’ll also put you in touch with the academic resources you need to succeed, including helping you create a personalized improvement plan.

University of Bridgeport
- The Heckman Center, housed on the second floor of Wahlstrom Library, offers resources and opportunities that foster academic, personal, social, and professional growth in an inclusive environment. Programs include Academic Advising Center, Tutoring & Learning Center and Student Support Services Program etc.

University of New Haven
- University of New Haven has an Academic Advising Center, a Center For Learning Resources and First Year Transition Programs to help you succeed.
- Accessibility Resources: If you are a student with a chronic medical condition, military service-related disorder or other disability, you may benefit from the support and services of The Accessibility Resources Center (ARC). Enrolled students who previously held an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Educational Plan, who would like to continue with reasonable accommodations at the University of New Haven, must request the accommodations through the Accessibility Resources Center.
